• So you want to build a time machine…

  As Stephen Hawking approaches seventy years old, he’s getting a bit bolder in making claims that normally would be confined to the pages ofpulp sci-fi mags. 

  Recently, he’s announced his belief that aliens exist (he suggests avoiding them at all costs) and, quite thrillingly, he’s given the world a recipe for building a time machine.

  Let’s all keep in mind that Hawking knows his way around the galaxy just about as well as he navigates media and public relations.  In other words, he knows how to get his name in headlines. 

  Certainly, his recent string of bold-ish proclamations are designed to bring attention to his latest commercial release, INTO THE UNIVERSE with Stephen Hawking.  You can check out plenty of clips on the Discovery Channel site.

  Given Hawking’s contributions to physics, his recent announcements are designed to be provocative, the physicist’s equivalent to carnival barker luring you into the tent.

  In our quest to unravel the purpose and direction of the universe, CURLY ANIMALS will spend a good deal of time highlight the major attractions, but — more importantly — we’ll be digging even deeper has we travel into the dirty, hidden corners of Hawking’s big top.

  In the coming weeks, we’ll be examining:

  • his belief that mankind has fewer than 500 years to exist,

  • his conception of the birth of the universe,

  • an explanation of one of his greatest contributions to physics (thermal radiation)

  • and also the beloved concept of panspermia, the scientific seed of “god.
